About Kuala Lumpur Pipes and Drums (KLPD)

Kuala Lumpur Pipes and Drums (KLPD) has been an active presence in the Malaysian music scene for over 15 years. Officially established under its current name in 2009, the band is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and is dedicated to preserving and promoting the tradition of Scottish pipe band music.

The band features two core instruments: the Great Highland Bagpipes and a variety of Scottish drums. While the repertoire is rooted in traditional Scottish tunes, KLPD also performs a rich mix of English, Malaysian, Chinese, and Indian pieces—reflecting Malaysia’s multicultural spirit.

Each performing member of KLPD brings over a decade of musical experience, contributing to the band’s dynamic sound and professionalism.

Our Founders & Leadership

KLPD was co-founded by:

  • Amirul Mazlan - The founding figure behind the formation and long-term vision of KLPD. Since the beginning, Amirul has led the overall strategic direction, band management, and future planning. He continues to serve as the Band Manager, overseeing both administrative and developmental aspects of the group.

  • Alif Akbar - Responsible for the musical direction of the band, Alif leads the training, repertoire, and performance quality across the pipe and drum sections.

  • Mohd. Fahmi - Contributed significantly during the early stages of KLPD’s formation. While no longer involved in the current management, his early support and contributions helped lay the foundation of the band. He continues to follow the band’s progress with pride from afar.

Our Identity

KLPD proudly adopts the full Scottish regalia in its performances. Members wear matching tartan kilts, along with traditional accessories such as Glengarries, sporrans, plaids, belts, and hose—honoring the heritage of the music we perform.

Competitions & Achievements

KLPD regularly competes in Grade 4 pipe band competitions across Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia, representing Malaysia on the regional stage with pride.

In September 2014, after securing 1st place at the Southeast Asian Pipe Band Competition in Singapore, the Pipe Band Association of Singapore officially promoted KLPD to Grade 3—a significant recognition of the band’s musical quality and discipline.

In 2016, KLPD achieved its highest competitive milestone by winning 1st place in the Grade 3 category at the same prestigious competition in Singapore, outperforming several experienced bands from around the region. This win solidified KLPD's position as one of the top pipe bands in Southeast Asia, and continues to fuel our ambition to reach even greater heights.

These achievements are a reflection of our members' dedication, the strength of our musical leadership, and our continuous pursuit of excellence both on and off the field.
